Kyle Ballantine

Minister of Music & Organist


Kyle was called as the Minister of Music and Organist at Binkley Baptist Church in early 2019. He was drawn to this faith community by the strong and vibrant music ministry, as well as the bold and joyful ways in which Binkley takes action to support issues of social justice.

His work at Binkley involves leading all facets of the church’s music ministry. Kyle directs the Chancel Choir and Binkley Ringers, coordinates the activities of the Old Time Gospel Band and musical opportunities for children and youth, administers the Choral Scholar Program, plays the organ and piano for worship, and is the staff liaison to the Music Committee. He also collaborates with the other ministerial staff in matters of worship planning, pastoral care, and more.

Kyle’s educational background includes a B.A. in Music Education from Muskingum University and a M.M. in Organ Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Prior to coming to Chapel Hill, he served for six years as Director of Music and Administration at First Baptist Church, Savannah, GA. Other significant experiences in music ministry include a musical internship at Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights (UCC) and serving as the Associate Organist at The Presbyterian Church of Coshocton, Ohio (PCUSA).

Kyle and his partner, John Pollock, live in Hillsborough. John is an elementary music teacher, and is a skilled educator, singer, and musician. Their shared interests include cooking, attending live music and theatre performances, enjoying a cup of coffee, reading, and finding new TV shows to watch together. They are cat people and have two cats: Ellie and Milo.
