Interim Organist
Stephen served for twenty-five years as Director of Music and Organist at the Cathedral Church of the Advent (Episcopal) in Birmingham, Alabama before retiring to Chapel Hill. Prior to his appointment at the cathedral in 1987, Dr. Schaeffer was on the music faculty at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina for sixteen years, the last four as Chair of the Department of Fine Arts. Stephen is not a stranger to Binkley Baptist Church. His sister is Gretchen Jordan, was our former Director of Christian Formation. During her tenure, Stephen visited our church on several occasions.
